Coin collecting is a hobby or activity that takes some  time to learn. Most importantly, one must remember that you in it for the right reasons.  If coin collecting is your passion, then it is definitely worth pursuing.

Collecting coins or money for profit only may work, but it usually is not enough . A person has to really think about this since most people who have tried it for that reason lost focus and failed.

Successful collectors take a lot of time and energy to learn all there is to know about the study of  numismatics. Good reference materials are coin collecting magazines, member newsletters and coin brokers who pass on information real time. By using these resources a collector can act fast before other coin collectors get the information first.

Knowing how to grade money can also help the coin collector know the true value of his or her collection. This knowledge is valuable if the owner trades for something of greater value.  Grading can also prevent scamming and fraud.

Learning to think like a coin collector is very, very important.  If you are too eager, the collector may be tempted to purchase the wrong coin which could be costly.   Coin collecting can be very difficult especially if the person is just starting out.  Start small and study the coin market for three to six months so that he or she can be comfortable.
